These terms apply to the Pilot Study AU app (including its widgets) and to this website, pilotstudy.com.au. By downloading or using the app, or using this website, you agree to them.
1. The app licence
The app is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA), together with these terms. If there’s a conflict between them about the app, the Standard EULA applies.
2. A study tool only
Independent study tool. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) or Airservices Australia. Not a substitute for instruction from a qualified flight instructor or for current official publications.
- Pilot Study AU is for theory study and radio practice only. It must not be used for flight planning, navigation or any real flight operations.
- Regulations and procedures change. Always check against current official documents (such as the CASR, Part 91 Manual of Standards, AIP and ERSA) and the “content current as of” date in the app.
- All aerodromes, charts and aircraft used in practice scenarios are fictional and for practice only.
- Practice exams are not the real exams. We don’t guarantee that you’ll pass any exam. Mock results and readiness scores are estimates based on your practice in the app.
- The radio trainer uses scripted practice scenarios. It doesn’t provide live air traffic control audio.
- We work hard to keep content accurate and have it reviewed by a qualified flight instructor, but it may contain errors. Please report anything that looks wrong using Report a problem in the app.
3. Free features, Pro and the Exam Pass
- The app is free to download. Some features need Pilot Study AU Pro (monthly or annual auto-renewing subscription) or a 6-Month Exam Pass (a one-off purchase that gives 6 months of Pro and doesn’t renew).
- Prices are shown in the app and the App Store before you buy. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase or, if you start a free trial, when the trial ends.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel them in your App Store account settings. If you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Purchases are processed by Apple, and refund requests are handled by Apple under its policies at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Family Sharing isn’t available for Pro or the Exam Pass.
- We may change features or prices in future. Price changes for existing subscriptions are handled through Apple, which notifies you in advance.
4. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law
Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can’t be excluded.
5. Using the app and content
You may use the app and its content for your own personal study. You must not copy, resell, republish or redistribute the app’s questions, lessons, flashcards or other content, or try to reverse-engineer the app, except as permitted by law.
6. Intellectual property and acknowledgements
The app, its content (except as noted below), design and the Pilot Study AU name and icon belong to us or our licensors.
Some explanations are adapted from Civil Aviation Safety Authority material licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Use of this material does not imply endorsement by CASA. Full attributions are in the app under Settings › Acknowledgements and licences.
7. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, and subject to section 4, we’re not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the app or this website, including exam results or decisions made in flight training or operations. Where our liability can’t be excluded but can be limited, it’s limited, at our option, to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again.
8. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. In short, your study data stays on your device.
9. This website
This website provides information about the app. Links to other websites, such as the App Store, are provided for convenience, and we’re not responsible for their content.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll change the effective date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we’ll also note it in the app’s release notes. If you keep using the app after a change, the updated terms apply.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.
